Ocean Isle is a quieter location, housing about 700 residents. It’s located 42 miles north of Myrtle Beach and offers a unique beach community suitable for families and retirees alike. You won’t find a lot of traffic or overwhelming light here. The water is usually around 10 degrees warmer than that of the Outer Banks area, inviting you in with open arms.
For those looking to enjoy the outdoors, Ocean Isle offers the Brunswick County Trail, which is a county-wide trail project looking to link communities throughout Brunswick County. There’s easily accessible kayaking, biking, walking, and wildlife observation throughout Ocean Isle, as well as ziplining and swamp adventures in Shallotte River Swamp Park.
Along its seven miles of pristine beach, you can enjoy watching the sea turtles nesting and hatching from May through October. There are volunteer opportunities to be a “nest parent,” by observing the nests at night during hatching times to assist the hatchlings into the water by protecting them from predators.
Other attractions include many waterfront restaurants, quaint boutique shopping, premium offshore fishing and charters, the Ocean Isle Pier, a Community Center, museums, beautiful parks with soccer and football fields, and Old Baldy -- South Carolina’s oldest remaining lighthouse, still available to tour.
